Five minutes to greatness

Tonight, one of my Everquest 2 characters achieved 450 adorning, the maximum skill level currently possible for the adorning tradeskill. I also spent only about 15 minutes in the game tonight, but not because I somehow managed to gain all 450 points in one night. Adorning is actually a very time consuming skill to raise, particularly dreadful before adorning writs were available and players had to gather their own materials. Even with the writs, it is time consuming since a character can… Continue Reading

At Least The Cats Get It

I’d bet that there aren’t many cats who hear this accusation, “Kumbaya! You just don’t get it!” That’s because cats get it just fine. I’ll explain. There’s this neighborhood cat that’s been hanging out on my back deck for the past few evenings. Yesterday evening the cat was there, loosely curled in one of the deck’s far corners. You can see an exhibit of the Service-Profit Chain model here. So over the weekend when I was reading John Maxwell’s Thinking for a Change,… Continue Reading

The Three Spiders: Scattered Opportunities

Last night I had a dream that I saw three huge spiders clustered together on the wall. These spiders were larger than any I’d ever seen outside of creepy movies that might be titled, “Mutant Spiders vs. San Francisco.” They were gigantic, they were terrifying, and here they were sitting all three together in one fearsome clump. My hunter instinct kicked in at that point, and I picked up a large book that was conveniently in the room. I then… Continue Reading

My Strengthsfinder Themes

I’ve signed up for some coaching to help guide my future direction, and one of my first homework assignments was to take an assessment test called Strengthsfinder that helps people to discover their five greatest talents, which can then be developed into strengths. The idea is to put focus on developing strengths rather than concentrating on weaknesses. This idea really resonated with me. In fact, I’ve had this quote up on my wall at work for a while now: “If… Continue Reading
